Our guest speaker is Becky Rossman, Executive Director of Peoria Community Against Violence (PCAV). The PCAV has a Crisis Response Team that responds to homicides and shootings to provide emotional support, de-escalation, and follow up services or referrals for family members. The CRT has been nationally trained to use the NOVA model for Group Crisis Intervention and Individual Crisis Intervention to reduce trauma after critical incidents for victims, witnesses, and first responders. PCAV is also implementing a soft roll out of a street intervention team but is partnering with the Peoria County Health Department on a national model that is empirically proven to reduce violent crime by treating it as a communicable disease.
